Youth Player Pathway

Youth Player Pathway

When your child is registered with a CSA-sanctioned club, you become part of the larger soccer world. Registration with your sanctioned club means you are affiliated with Colorado Soccer Association. CSA is affiliated and sanctioned by US Youth Soccer, which operates as the largest branch of the US Soccer Federation. The US Soccer Federation oversees youth, adult, amateur and professional soccer players in the United States and is sanctioned by FIFA, the world governing body of soccer.

Birthdate Verification

Requirements

As a member of US Youth Soccer, it is a requirement that all players playing in CSA leagues have a verified date of birth. This means that a member of our staff must view a government-issued document with the player’s name and date of birth. Through this process, we can also verify if the player in question has to go through the International Clearance process. Scroll further down to read more on International Clearance.

The birthdate verification process is required by US Youth Soccer and enforced by Colorado Soccer Association. This is done to ensure that all players are age-eligible and are not illegally playing in a younger age group.

Documents

The following documents are accepted for birthdate verification:

  • State-issued birth certificate
  • Driver’s license or state ID card
  • US Passport
  • Green Card or Permanent Resident Card

The following documents are NOT accepted, with reason listed in parenthesis:

  • Hospital-issued birth certificate (not government issued)
  • Social Security Card (no date of birth is listed)
  • School ID card (not government issued)
  • Vaccination records (not government issued)
  • Foreign birth certificates and passports (International Clearance is required for players with foreign documents)

Process for Getting Verified

There are two options available for parents to get their youth player verified:

Option 1: Upload a scanned copy or picture of the document into Play Metrics.

  • This is the most secure method outside of visiting our office and having the document verified in person. Once the document is uploaded into Sports Connect, it is encrypted and no one outside of CSA staff members have the ability to view the document. Once uploaded, the document can only be deleted from the system, never viewed. Once the document is verified, the document can be deleted at any time.

Option 2: Bring the document to the CSA office in person.

  • Bring your approved document to the CSA office and have the document and birthdate verified by a member of our staff. A copy is never held at the office. Once it is verified, you are able to leave the office with the document still in hand.

Please see our office hours and location to make sure you arrive when staff are in office.

International Clearance

If a player only has a foreign document, be it a passport or birth certificate issued by a governmental agency outside of the United States of America, International Clearance is required before the player is eligible to play in any CSA-sanctioned leagues, tournaments, or other events.

This is a policy enforced by FIFA, the world governing body of soccer, and is required of all member organizations under the FIFA umbrella, which CSA is through our affiliation with US Youth Soccer and US Soccer.

Below is a window displaying the International Clearance webpage on US Soccer’s website. This contains all steps in the process, required forms, and how to submit. Click here to be transferred to the US Soccer site and view the page in your browser.

Club Releases

Being released from a club or transferring between clubs at anytime is dependent on the signed registration that is on file with your current club. Each club runs differently and the registration agreement you completed upon registration may vary. The commitment made during the registration process may be for a season (Fall OR Spring) or the entire seasonal year (both Fall AND Spring). Please check with your club for any questions regarding your registration form and agreement.

Transfers

There is a one-week window at the beginning of December in which a player can transfer clubs, regardless of the registration agreement.

Between December 2nd and December 6th, the player can submit a request using a link to be provided on December 2nd. The current club is notified of the request and, as long as there are no outstanding financial obligations, the player will be released.

Insurance Claim

All registered playing members of Colorado Soccer Association (CSA) are provided with a secondary medical insurance coverage. Payment will not be made for any expenses incurred after 52 weeks of the accident date. If you need to submit a claim for an injury, please click the appropriate link below.

Click here to submit a claim to Colorado Soccer Association

Once the claim is submitted using the above link, CSA reviews the completed form to verify that the player is registered by the club in our system and confirm that the injury occurred during a sanctioned activity. Once signed off, CSA sends it to the insurance carrier.
