2019 Hall of Fame Inductees

Candy Brooks - Lifetime Achievement

Candy Brooks currently serves as the Executive Director at Pride Soccer Club, which she, along with her husband, Andy, and the Wasson family formed in 1994. In the 25 years since the founding of Pride SC, Candy has overseen the growth from 450 players in ‘94 to over 4,000 today, becoming the biggest club in southern Colorado. In the time since Candy helped found Pride SC, a TOPSoccer program was brought in, as well as partnerships with UCCS and the Colorado Springs Switchbacks. In addition to the numerous championships at the state and Regional level, Pride SC has also fielded a successful W-League women’s team and a men’s team currently playing in USL League 2. Candy oversaw the development and opening of Pride Soccer Complex, the first privately-owned club soccer facility in southern Colorado. Candy previously served as member of the Advanced League Operations Committee and currently serves on the CSA Board of Directors and Disciplinary Committee.

José Corro - Lifetime Achievement

José Corro moved to Colorado after spending the first 24 years of his life in Mexico, where he attended school and played soccer for both school and state teams. Upon his arrival in Colorado, he immediately became heavily involved on the adult side of the game, playing multiple roles for Club America Soccer Club, including player, coach, manager, ad owner. In addition to his duties at the adult club, José served as a Board Member, State Penalty Commissioner, and State Judicial Committee Member of the Colorado State Soccer Association, the former adult state organization. In 1992, after his roles at Club America and CSSA, José became a certified referee to stay involved in the game. José oversaw countless games at the youth, adult, and amateur levels, including National and Regional Cup events. José soon became a national referee, where he was involved in MLS games and numerous international friendlies. José currently serves as a referee mentor, coach and assignor.

Shami Behbehani - Lifetime Achievement

Born in Iran and schooled in England, Shami Behbehani went to college and began coaching in Texas before moving to Colorado. While in Colorado, Shami played with the Colorado Comets indoor semi-professional team from 1984-92. Shami also began coaching with the Cherry Creek Soccer Association in ‘89, overseeing numerous state championships and titles until leaving the club in 2002. In addition to club soccer, Shami served as a coach in the Olympic Development program for years, as well as coaching the Colorado Comets Women’s team, which played in the Colorado Amateur League, and the Colorado Bandits.

Chris Martinez - Outstanding Achievement

After a youth soccer career spent playing for Aurora SC, Cherry Creek Lighting, and Lakewood Renegades, as well as Ponderosa High School, Chris Martinez received a scholarship to play at Clemson University, where he played from 1989-92. Following his college career, Chris went professional, joining the Colorado Foxes of the APSL and playing with them from 1993-97. He left the Foxes to sign with the Rapids in ‘97, making 119 appearances across five seasons and winning Rapids Defender of the Year in 2001. Since retiring from playing professional soccer in 2002, Chris cofounded the Footability Technical Footwork System, has coached at the youth level in Colorado and currently serves as the Assistant Coach for Sporting Kansas City’s USL affiliate.
