Commerce City, Colo. - It’s only been four weeks of Colorado Super League action, but the race for a Top Four finish in the table is getting tighter and tighter as games progress. This past weekend there were several important matches that made it even more interesting.
Colorado Rush II and GAM United FC would battle it out to kick-off the day. Colorado Rush II had previously won against CFL Aurora FC in Week 1 and managed to rescue a point in a dramatic 4-4 draw against Sunnyside FC in Week 3. As for GAM United FC, in two games they’ve only gathered 3 points, beating league leaders Logroñes Denver SC in Week 2, but losing to Union Jerez FC in Week 1.
While GAM United FC controlled most of the possession during the game, Colorado Rush II capitalized their opportunities in front of goal and exposed a disjointed mighty lions defense, specifically when defending service from Rush II wingers. Cole Whaley opened up the scoresheet with a header and captain Devin Guidichessi finished after a GAM United goalkeeper mistake. Before halftime, winger Marcus Jordan and Cole Whaley combined for another goal, similar to the first one, giving Rush II a 3-0 lead. This scoreline forced GAM United to push numbers up in the second half, and they did. In the first 10 minutes, midfielder Zidani Baptiste scored on a free kick and minutes later Elijah Mwenebitu added the second off a corner kick. GAM United continued in search of the tying goal, but it never came due to a stingy Colorado Rush II team. A solid and collective effort in the second half for Rush II secured the three points against GAM United FC, who is ahead of them in points. With the win, Rush II reached 19 points and closed in on GAM, who dropped to fourth place in league standings.

Following the Colorado Rush II vs GAM United FC match, Logroñes Denver SC and Guadalajara faced off.
Stibe Torres would get on the scoresheet just 3 minutes into the game after a Jesus Cervantes run from the left flank. A few minutes later, the same two players combined for Torres’ second goal, with a fairly similar play as the first goal. On another attacking possession, Joshua Miranda picked up a rebound and striking from distance, curled the ball to the bottom left hand corner of Logroñes Denver SC goalkeeper Antonio Barron. Guadalajara continued with possession of the ball, drawing fouls and corner kicks in their favor. One of those fouls came around the top of the 18-yard box. Samuel Saenz executed that free kick, hitting the crossbar, the ball then bounced back into play and Stibe Torres would be there to head the goal for his hat-trick. After about 25 minutes, Logroñes settled into the game, finding their dangerous men up top and creating chances.
Starting the second half, Logroñes striker Alan Pantaleon hit the back of the net after a dangerous Jose Montalvo run and combined to break down the Guadalajara defense. We apologize ahead of time for not getting a better angle on Pantaleon’s goal, as our videographer was doing double duty getting photos during the first ten minutes of the second half (when goal occurred). Junior Miranda would score the 5th for los rojiblancos from distance and put the game away. With the win, Guadalajara climbs up to third place with 21 points following the GAM United FC loss to Colorado Rush II. With this result, Logroñes remains on top of the table with 25 points, followed by FC Denver who reached 23 points.
